Week 5, session 2

Today was dedicated studio and feedback time which was awesome.
Whilst Jacqui and Phoebe were talking to some of the other students in the class I worked on iterating my "50 shades" concept and then I got heaps of helpful feedback from the tutors.
In terms of that series of concepts, the stripes was valued and they thought that putting the logo within the word 'conformity' was too clever. They understood why I put the tagline in but weren't sure it was necessary. Then Phoebe brought up the fact that even though it was a cool and interesting concept what relation does public schooling have to the 50 shades idea in society today? And the answer to that was nothing really - it was just an idea. And whilst she appreciated the pastiche idea behind it, it was really valuable feedback! So now that we are scrapping the "50 shades" from the concept, they liked the idea of introducing colour and the tagline becomes more necessary.
I showed them the blazer concept I had to compare as they were the same type of idea and personally I preferred the blazer visually. Phoebe agreed that there was definitely something more interesting about the blazer but maybe I need to rework the actual blazer vector so that it has more detail. Jacqui suggested I could work with shorter taglines - simply "Conformity OR Individuality?"
In playing with colours they wanted me to look at the traditional burgundy's, greens, navy's and textures (stripes/plaid).
I then was able to talk to Phoebe about my other pathway for exploring this angle. I showed her the stress/heartbeat concept that I had been working on and whilst she liked the metphor behind it she asked me what had happened to my 'chokehold' idea as that was stronger. I told her because it was just an initial idea I had moved on past it, but she suggested to me to go back to that concept and iterate that one instead which I am more than happy about. I was worried that because it was one of my initial ideas I should have moved far away from that in terms of getting to a final but she explained to me that sometimes the design process takes you all over the place and you end up realising that you need to go back to that initial idea and just tweak it because it is actually the strongest. So now I need to source my a private school uniform to take photos of to use as the one I had done my initial concept with was not my own.
This classes' feedback was really beneficial to me so I am excited to see how my iteration work goes - I am a little worried though as I am not a photography student so I hope the photo's I take will look good :/
